[Success Story] AccurioPro Flux automates the printing and finishing workflow at Cardiff Metropolitan University

With an AccurioPress C4070, an inline TU-510 trimming unit and AccurioPro Flux, Cardiff Metropolitan University's award-winning Print Studio replaced manual, offline finishing with an automated workflow that ensures every job comes out exactly as requested.

Cardiff Metropolitan University's Print Studio is an award-winning in-house facility offering an unusually broad range of services: wide-format printing, flat-bed cutting, booklet making, Direct to Garment and Direct to Object printing. Its reputation was strong, but its finishing was holding it back.

The challenge

  • Aging offline finishing equipment requiring heavy manual intervention
  • Time-consuming make-ready limiting production efficiency
  • A broad, complex service mix that needed a smarter way to prepare jobs

The solution

  • Konica Minolta AccurioPress C4070 digital color press
  • TU-510 inline trimming unit
  • AccurioPro Flux, our print workflow automation software

Chosen after a competitive tender, AccurioPro Flux became the studio's make-ready brain. Before a sheet is printed, the software lets the team impose the file and visualize the final printed format, and add the cut-marks and barcodes finishers need. What used to be worked out by hand, job by job, is now prepared on screen in a few clicks. Additionally, account codes ensure that each job is correctly assigned to the respective department in AccurioPro Flux, allowing the university to keep track of costs and manage billing centrally.

Because AccurioPro Flux drives the AccurioPress C4070 and its inline TU-510 trimming unit as one line, the finishing that once needed separate offline equipment now happens in a single automated pass. The manual intervention is gone, make-ready is faster, and the studio's operators can spend their time on the creative, high-value work the Print Studio is known for, not on setting up finishing by hand.

The benefits for the customer

  • Offline finishing equipment eliminated in favor of an inline, automated line
  • Finishing formats visualized and imposed before printing
  • Faster make-ready and far less manual intervention
  • One coordinated software-and-hardware workflow across a broad service mix
  • Account codes help bill each job to the correct department
  • Operator time freed for higher-value, creative work

With AccurioPro Flux joining prepress and finishing into a single automated workflow, Cardiff Metropolitan University's Print Studio has taken its production efficiency to the next level, matching its demand with a workflow that keeps up.
